History

Archimedes Systems has been delivering software solutions since 1991. It is based in Ottawa, Canada, but is open to taking on projects anywhere in North America, the UK, or Europe.

Profile of services

Archimedes Systems provides commercial services through its own consulting services and non-free web hosting. Somewhat like other companies which blend their commercial services with open source offerings, Archimedes also serves the public good by providing the means of a free web presence via Nostromo (e.g. yoursite.nostromo.com). Because there are individuals or organizational entities which feel sufficiently compelled to have a less obvious connection to Nostromo or Archimedes, Web Channel provides fee-based services for establishing and maintaining your web presence. (e.g. yoursite.com), on one of its own servers or the server of another ISP.

Archimedes Systems has so far provided services for the construction and deployment of Windows based client server applications, mainly to the Canadian federal goverment. In summer 2007 Archimedes Systems will begin to offer additional Internet technology services to individuals and organizational entities through its Web Channel brand. Being simply a brand of services, commercial business in all aspects will continue to be conducted under Archimedes Systems Consulting Inc.

Respecting the value and momentum of open source software, Archimedes Systems has adapted to using lightweight development languages (e.g. Ruby, PHP, Mono). In database solutions, Archimedes Systems is database-agnostic, through flourishing experience in MySQL and PostgreSQL, along with solid continuing experience in Oracle, Sybase, and MS SQLServer.

Contracts abroad

As in any other commercial exercise in which travel and accommodations become involved, fees are likely to increase. Flat rates are not representative of the variety of situations; Archimedes will endeavour to adjust the fee increase to include the actual additional cost, based on locale, travel time and mode of travel.
